Betty “Boo” Gredig Finucane passed away on Saturday, May 27, 2017, at Denver Hospice after a short illness. She was 85, having been born on July 11, 1931, to Louise and John Gredig, in Del Norte, CO, and reared on a ranch to the west of this San Luis Valley hamlet. Betty attended Del Norte Schools until high school when she went to St. Scholastica Academy in Canon City. She took college course work at Alamosa State and Denver University and graduated from San Jose State College in 1958 in Health Education. She continued her work in health education as a graduate student, living in the International House at UC Berkeley, and graduated from there with a MS in Health Education in 1960. Upon graduation, Betty worked for the Maryland State Department of Health as a Health Educator where she met Daniel J. Finucane, MD. They were married on May 28, 1970. Betty and Dan enjoyed their life of retirement together, living in Epping Forest, a very special part of Annapolis, MD. Dan preceded Betty in death by a number of years, passing away in 1984. Betty spent many happy years enjoying her home, friends, and neighbors in Epping Forest. She enjoyed the outdoors and outdoor activities in Maryland, just as she did the horseback-riding and fishing trips in the Colorado mountains. Betty is survived by many relatives and friends who will miss her witty humor and easy smiles. Survivors include her sister, Annine (Billie) G. Untiedt, of California, three step-grandchildren – Debra Tidquist of Wisconsin, James Lyon Finucane of Maryland, and Daniel Finucane of Indiana, five nieces – Kim Conant, Lynn Anderson, Karen Hillman, Sue Means, Caley Gredig, one nephew – John Warren Gredig, numerous grand nephews and nieces, and very good friends, Bob and Shirley Foster of Maryland. Also, preceding Betty in passing was her beloved brother Jack, who shared her love of the Colorado landscape as well as her knack of playing a multitude of practical jokes. In later years, a favorite pastime for Betty was planning and enjoying extensive foreign travel. She traveled several times with her sister, Billie, to such exciting places as Central Europe and Africa. More local trips with Billie and other family members involved frequent visits to the Casinos to try her luck. “Betty Boo” will be greatly missed by all who love her. A Celebration of Life will be planned for the family during the Summer. Memorial Contributions may be made to Denver Hospice – 501 S. Cherry St, Suite 700, Denver, CO 80246.
