Albert (Al) Romero, 81, passed away peacefully at his home in Littleton, CO, surrounded by his loving wife Barbara, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, after a courageous 6-year battle with cancer. Demonstrating remarkable strength and resilience, Al was a beacon of faith, love, and kindness. He leaves behind a legacy of unwavering devotion to God and his family.
Al was born in Los Sauces, CO, a small town in the San Luis Valley. He was raised in Manassa, CO, by his late parents Alejandro and Eloisa Perea and stepfather Nick Montoya. At the age of 19, Al married his sweetheart Barbara Gallardo from Antonito, CO. As newlyweds, they ventured to Leadville, CO, where Al worked at Climax as a miner for 2 years. Al moved his family to Toledo, Ohio, where he attended the National School of Meat Cutters. He then returned to Colorado to work for Safeway as a meat merchandiser in Colorado Springs, where he raised his three sons before moving to Littleton, Colorado, to take a position as a meat merchandiser manager. Al worked for Safeway for 30 years before retiring. After retiring from Safeway, Al and Barb were helping the priest at St. Andrews Seminary, being translators and involved in events. They were also active members of St. Francis Cabrini Parish, where they were both instrumental in assisting groups who traveled to Mexico for missionary work. They were also given an opportunity to travel to Antigua, Guatemala, to assist orphans in need.
While caring for his family and with God always in his heart, Al decided to become an entrepreneur and owned a liquor store for several years. Al also had unique skills in mechanical, electrical, building and was skilled in math.
Al and Barb were avid travelers, visiting all the states in America. Some of their experiences included traveling throughout Europe and Mexico, and they started traveling with their grandchildren.
Al loved his motorcycle, and he and Barb traveled throughout the United States, even at times with a Christian group. He also loved to hunt and was quite the outdoorsman, boating and camping with his family.
Al endeared himself to everyone he encountered. He helped the needy with remarkable compassion, kindness, and caring. His genuine affection for people, coupled with his charismatic positivity and optimism, instilled inspiration and hope in others.
Al leaves behind a legacy rooted in strong family values. He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Barbara; 3 sons, Barlow (Chrystal), Greg (Marty), and Gabriel (Allison); grandchildren, Brandon, Blayne, Natasha, Tyler, and Kali; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Martinez Albuquerque, NM, Steve Romero (Littleton, CO), Amer (Vangie) Grand Junction, CO, Darlen Ruybal (Sam) Greeley, CO, Prax Montoya (Vonnie) Pueblo, CO, Denise Montoya Denver, CO, and Celeste (Brian) Salazar, Romeo, CO; and his great uncle Regie Romero Denver, CO, many uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces cousins, and friends.
Albert is preceded in death by his parents, Alejandro Romero and Eloisa Perea; brothers, Alex, Alfonso, Vivian; and sister, Natalie.
A Celebration of Life will be held on June 7th at 11:30 AM at Saint Louis Roman Catholic Church, 3310 S. Sherman Street, Englewood, CO 80113.
A Reception will follow at Saint Louis School (across from the church).
