Agatha Langan Calkins, beloved mother, grandma, and great-grandma, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2025, at the age of 100 in Centennial, Colorado. Born on July 26, 1924, in Scranton, PA, she was the second oldest of nine siblings. Agatha graduated from Scranton Technical High School, and after earning her secretarial certificate, she dedicated many years of service at Standard Oil.
Her passion for the arts led her to study the history of art, and she shared that love by becoming a docent at the Amon Carter Museum, where she touched many lives with her enthusiasm and knowledge. Agatha’s life was enriched by her 50-year marriage to Allen Calkins, with whom she created a home in South Orange, New Jersey, Ft. Worth, Texas, and Mission Viejo, California. After Allen's passing, Agatha moved to Colorado to be closer to her daughter & granddaughter.
A woman of many interests, Agatha was an active member of the tennis community, loved to grow tomatoes, and had a remarkable ability to make everyone around her smile. Above all, she was deeply committed to her family and found immense joy in traveling, being near the ocean, and cherishing every moment with those she loved.
Agatha is survived by her daughter, Liza Fountaine, granddaughter Elizabeth Fountaine, and great-grandson August, as well as countless friends whose lives were brightened by her warmth and kindness. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and two brothers and five sisters.
Agatha's legacy lives on in the hearts of her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her. In lieu of gifts the family asks for a donation to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center or the Pet Project Foundation - Rescue partner of the San Clemente - Dana Point Animal Shelter - petprojectfoundation.org. in Agatha’s memory.
