Rosella Decena Castro

She was born on October 8, 1938, in Nagcarlan, Laguna Philippines, the eldest daughter of the late Silvino and Susana Decena.

She was a loving mother to Geraldine Castro Jacobs, married to Monty Jacobs. She was a devoted grandmother to Megan (Jake) Calkins and Jared Jacobs; sister to Susan (Edward) Pan, Ruth (Danny) Ranchez, Elizabeth (Noel) Frias, Nelson (Lorna) Decena, and Silvino (Jessica) Decena.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Israel Castro in 2021 and her younger sisters Raquel (Willie) Tortal and Jeannette (Enzo) D’Angelo.

Rosella dedicated over 40 years of her life to the practice of Pediatrics serving patients and working alongside colleagues at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C. Beyond her medical career, she was involved with many groups in her church and Filipino community and enjoyed being a pianist and organist at several Seventh-day Adventist churches in Maryland and Florida.

She cherished life’s simple pleasures and made beautiful memories with family and her community.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2026 at the Sligo Seventh-day Adventist Church, 7700 Carroll Avenue, Takoma Park, Maryland.
