Richard was born on January 9, 1946 in San Juan, Puerto Rico where he grew up. He later moved to New York City to further his academic studies. He graduated from New York University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Art Education and a Master’s Degree in Bilingual Education. He also earned an Advanced Graduate Degree in Educational Administration and Supervision from Fordham University. Richard’s passion was teaching. He touched countless lives and was loved by many students throughout his years in education. It was rare for him to go out in public and not hear someone shout “Mr. U!” and start up a conversation. He taught at the following schools: IS 44 in Manhattan, NY; Bishop Kenny High School in Jacksonville, FL; Allen D. Nease High School in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL; and Ponte Vedra High School in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. He was actively involved in Our Lady Star or the Sea Catholic Church.
Richard is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Lorna; his beloved daughter, Samantha (George) Enstad; his brother, Robert (Cathy) Ulmer; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Carl Ulmer, Sr. and Eloisa Alonso Ulmer; and his sisters, Maria Dolores Gonzalez Alonso and Patricia Benitez Ulmer.
