

Richard R. Baumstark, Jr. of Melbourne, Florida – “Dick” to his family and “Boomer” to colleagues – passed away on August 17, 2026, at the age of 78. He was born and raised in Chicago to Richard R. and Adeline Wieczor Baumstark Sr. and was a proud alum of Lane Tech High School. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force, enjoying much of his term of service in Turkey.
Throughout his career, he held various positions, to include: Seismic Data Analyst, a UNIX/LAN Administrator, and a Nuclear Treaty Monitoring Directorate/National Data Center Data Manager and Data Base Administrator. His jobs took him from the nascent Teledyne-Geotech Labs in Alexandria, Virginia to Brown Engineering in Rosslyn, Virginia and later, Patrick Air Force Base in Melbourne. His last job was with the Department of Defense at Patrick. Well-respected in the field, he retired in 2014.
He enjoyed fishing, doing his own vehicle maintenance, and watching Westerns and football games in his free time.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Adeline (Mt. Prospect Illinois). He is survived by his wife Nancy Baumstark (Melbourne) and his daughter Kristine Baumstark (Chicago), as well as his sister Dorothy Butek and niece Laura Foster and family (both of Fontana Wisconsin).
