She was born on October 3, 1930, on her grandmother’s kitchen table in Brewster, New York—a place that remained close to her heart throughout her life.
Mary was the beloved wife of the late Frank Montanaro (d. 1995) and the devoted mother of her only child, Cathy Parker. She is survived by her grandchildren Debbie Pappu, Paula Sibbitt, Lacy Hartley, and Brad Sibbitt, all of Florida. Her legacy continues through eleven great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her siblings Sonny Thomas, Gladys Fredericks, and Joan Prisco.
Mary was known for her strength, independence, and quiet sense of humor, often expressed with her signature side smile. She took pride in her work, beginning her career as a switchboard operator at a hospital before later becoming a saleswoman in New York selling fur coats—something she remained especially proud of.
She found joy in life’s simple routines, including her mornings with an English muffin, fruit, and coffee with plenty of sugar and cream. She enjoyed shopping, particularly at JCPenney, and had a love for crocheting. No matter where she lived, Brewster, New York was always considered home.
Mary was a steady and loving presence in her family’s life. She lived with her granddaughter for several years and remained an important part of the household as the family grew. She shared a special bond with her great-grandchildren, Landon and Charlotte, cherishing time spent rocking them as babies and later playing, coloring, and simply being together.
Mary will be remembered for her resilience, her unwavering presence, and the quiet but meaningful ways she showed her love. Her legacy lives on through the family she cherished and the lives she touched.
A memorial gathering will be held on May 17, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM in Longwood, Florida at her home. Mary will be laid to rest in a private ceremony in Brewster, New York.
