Margaret Standifer Ager

Margaret was born on June 30, 1945, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, to parents Arizona “Zona” and William Standifer. Margaret graduated from Red Bank High School in 1963 and went on to attend Tennessee Tech University.

Margaret graduated from Tennessee Tech University in 1967 with a bachelor’s degree in biology. During her time at Tennessee Tech, Margaret worked in the biology lab, where she met the love of her life, Lothian Ager.

Margaret and Lothian married on March 16, 1967. Margaret and Lothian moved to Okeechobee, Florida in 1967, where Margaret worked as a teacher. While living in Okeechobee, Margaret joined Beta Sigma Phi, a social sorority, where she met some of her dearest friends.

Margaret and Lothian went on to have two children, Lori Ager and William “Mac” Ager. The Ager family moved to Tallahassee, Florida in 1980, where Margaret worked for the American Cancer Society. The Agers relocated to Orlando, Florida in 1990. Margaret later went to work for Canine Companions for Independence, where she led the Southeast Region in its mission to enhance lives by providing highly-skilled service dogs and all follow-up services to clients.

After retirement, Margaret enjoyed spending time with family and traveling with friends - especially if the destination had a casino!

Margaret was predeceased by her parents, Zona and William Standifer, and her older sister Sandra Standifer.

Margaret is survived by her husband, Lothian Ager; children, Lori Ager and Mac Ager (Kelly Ager); her granddaughters, Courtney Ager (João Caramanti) and Taylor Ager Filippini (Matthew Filippini); her sister, Lynn Salser; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Margaret found much fulfillment in a life that was largely defined by helping others. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Canine Companions for Independence, the organization from which Margaret retired after spending many years working to assist others, or the Florida Diabetes Camp, where her granddaughter spent many years attending and volunteering.
