Leslie Eugene Hoffman, 89, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 5th, at Platinum Oaks Assisted Living Facility, having lived a full and wonderful life. Les is pre-deceased by his wife of 61 years, Shirley, brother Daniel, and son Jim. He is survived by his sons Tom and Larry (married to Yuko), grandson Nicholas (married to Taylor) and great grandsons Braxton and Maddox.
Les was born to Thomas and Blanche Hoffman in Sellersville, PA. He grew up with his younger brother, Daniel, and graduated from Muhlenberg Township high school. He played clarinet in a band to earn money. Les was the first in his family to earn a college degree, having graduated from Penn State, where he and Shirley, his wife of 61 years, met. After marriage in June 1957, they both attended the University of Pittsburgh for post graduate education. Les completed masters level engineering courses and assisted in undergraduate engineering instruction. Les, Shirley and sons lived in Philadelphia PA, then moved to Clearwater, FL, then Framingham, MA for a year, then settled in the Tampa Bay, FL area for the next 43 years. Les and Shirley moved to the Melbourne, FL area in 2016.
Les worked as an electronics engineer, having designed and produced electronic devices for various private and government organizations. Les retired in 1995 from E-Systems as Director of Engineering, Communications Manufacturing Division.
On retirement, Les and Shirley traveled the world, having completed 25 International trips to such locations as South Africa, South America, Central America, India, Nepal, China, Russia, Turkey, Israel, the Middle East, SE Asia, and Europe. They also visited family and made new friends along the way. Les was very active in his faith and the Lutheran Church.
Les touched many lives as an engineer and father and made a difference in the lives of those who knew him. Les is dearly loved and we miss him greatly.
A Celebration of Life for Les will be held at Faith Viera Lutheran Church on Saturday, April 5 at 11:00 AM., with light finger foods served afterward. The Celebration will also be streamed live and recorded on YouTube, accessed on the Faith Viera website (www.FaithViera.org).
