Leo Terry VanGeystelen

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Leo J. VanGeystelen, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who departed this world on August 16, 2026, at the age of 70, after a long-term illness.

Leo was born on September 5, 1955, in Centralia, Washington, to the late Leo Francis and Marion Hope VanGeystelen. Leo was predeceased by his parents, his cherished son Christopher VanGeystelen, and his beloved daughter Selina Lynn VanGeystelen. He leaves behind his devoted wife, Pamela Fay VanGeystelen, with whom he shared many treasured memories. Leo is also survived by his children, Jamie VanGeystelen, Tony VanGeystelen, and Maria Fay VanGeystelen. His legacy continues through his many grandchildren.

Leo was a proud veteran, having served his country with distinction in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. From 1972 to 1987 , completed three tours, contributing significantly to his nation's defense. His sense of duty and commitment extended beyond his military service as he embarked on a long and distinguished career as a Nuclear Rigger for the Department of Defense. Leo served with dedication at both the Bremerton Washington and Portsmouth Naval Shipyards, retiring in 2014 after 31 years of exemplary service. His outstanding contributions were recognized through numerous commendations, a testament to his unwavering work ethic and excellence.

Outside of his professional life, Leo was a man of many passions. In his younger years, he was an avid softball player and coach, inspiring many with his enthusiasm and sportsmanship. He enjoyed the thrill of bow hunting and fishing in the Washington area and was a devoted fan of the Seattle Mariners and Seahawks, cheering them on with fervor. Leo also found joy in the simple pleasures of life, touring the back roads on his Harley , savoring Lobster stew and indulging on Gunsmoke and John Wayne classics in retirement.

Leo is also survived by his sister, Trudy Knutson, who shared a lifelong bond with her brother. The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to those who have offered their support and condolences during this difficult time, especially Good Shepherd Hospice and Comfort Keepers Caregivers.
