Lauro “Larry” Lao of Orlando, Florida passed away on Monday, March 20, 2023. Larry was born on August 18, 1943 in the city of Paco, Manila, Philippines. Most of his childhood was spent in Baguio City, Philippines where he was an excellent student at St. Louis University from 3rd grade up to his 3rd year of High School. Larry graduated from college with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering at the University of the Philippines, Diliman Quezon City, and completed his Master’s Degree in Textile Engineering at the University of Hong Kong. He also completed a degree in Applied Math and Computer Science at Washington University, in St. Louis, Missouri.
Larry’s career started with Litton Mills in the Philippines. In 1967 he migrated to the UNITED STATES and worked for the University of St. Louis, Missouri. In 1978 he moved to Minnesota and worked for Honeywell, Headquarters Corporate Office as a Computer Engineer. In 1985, Larry was married to Lillibeth Labalan and together they had one daughter, Melissa, in 1989. Larry and his family moved to Orlando, Florida in 1997 where he worked as a Computer Consultant with Harcourt Brace and then Walt Disney Corporation as an Applications Engineer until his retirement in 2013.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ricardo B. Lao and Francisca Manio Lao and siblings Francisca Lao Morales, Ricardo Lao III, Lederlo Lao and Ricardo Lao Jr. He is survived by his wife Lillibeth, daughter, Melissa, and grandson, Evan, and elder brother, Lutgardo and sisters, Rosario, Milagros, Agnes and Grace.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses of Osceola Regional Hospital for the care and compassion they showed Larry in his final days. And to all our families and friends our deepest gratitude for all their love and prayers.
Larry was cremated at Neptune Funeral Home and his cremains will be interred in the Queen of Angels Cemetery.
Family and friends are invited to attend the Catholic Funeral Mass for Larry Lao on Tuesday, April 4, 2023 at 11am at Mary Mother of God Chapel and Interment of Ashes at 12pm at Queen of Angels Cemetery located within San Pedro Spiritual Development Center, 95 Bishop Grady Lane in Winter Park, FL 32792.
After the Interment, everybody is invited to a Celebration of Life reception at St. Augustine Conference Hall #100, adjacent to the chapel.
Larry’s immediate family, Lillibeth, Melissa, brother, Lut, and 4 sisters, Sally, Mila, Agnes and Grace, would like to extend our sincerest and deepest gratitude for all the prayers and love that was extended to us by all of our families and friends during this most sorrowful times. Thank you and God bless us all.
LARRY HAS LIVED A FULL AND COMPLETE LIFE. He had a most wonderful life with his family. His was well-lived, and he had many years of enjoyment. He has left behind wonderful memories of a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. We are grateful for each and every day we got to see his glowing smile, and for the lessons learned and all the jokes we shared.
