Harvey J. Lester, age 77 of Lakeland, Florida, went peacefully to his Heavenly home on April 8, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. A devoted servant of Christ, Harvey's life reflected his deep faith, kind spirit, and unwavering love for those around him. Born in Bartow, Florida, he remained rooted in his community and steadfast in his walk with the Lord throughout his life.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Judith Lester; his children, Monica (David) Hanzlik, Jon (Lavette) Lester, and Marcus (Maria) Lester; twelve cherished grandchildren; his brothers, Charles (Mattie) Luster and Vonney (Wendolyn) Luster; his sister, Juanita Sams; and a host of loving relatives and friends.
Harvey served 30 years in the U.S. Army, including 15 years as a hospital chaplain. He also founded and pastored several churches. Committed to supporting and uplifting the community, he established the Luster All Training Center and collaborated with his brother, Charles Luster, founder and curator of the Luster African American Museum.
Instead of a service, let the legacy of Harvey live on through you by displaying Godly and selfless love, and by caring for one another. His cremains will be laid to rest at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Luster African American Heritage Museum, 585 E.
