

Fred Graca, originally from the South Side of Chicago and later the suburbs passed away peacefully in his Lakeland, Florida home at the age of 90. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 40 years, Mary Lynch Graca and his children who surrounded him with love and support as he passed on July 11, 2026. He will be remembered and missed by his loving wife, sister, nieces, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and many friends.
Fred enlisted in the Marine Corps after high school and served in the Korean War. After his military service, Fred joined the Cook County Sheriff's Police Department and had an highly respected career spanning many decades, receiving a record number of department commendations. He worked with tactical teams including homicide and narcotics and later was assigned the head of the original Metropolitan Enforcement Group, MEG Unit, which was a team of investigators from various local law enforcement agencies. He also was trained in Washington DC as a DEA Agent. Later in his career, he provided security detail to the States Attorney's Office under Richard M. Daley. After retirement, Fred enjoyed his life in Florida. He loved traveling the country to visit kids and grandkids. His travels also included several international cruises with the love of his life, Mary. Fred will be remembered for his generous heart and magnetic charisma.
His service will be held on Thursday July 23, 2026, at 10:30am at St Anthony's Catholic Church, 820 Marcum Rd, Lakeland, FL 33809. He will be laid to rest at the Bushnell National Veterans’ Cemetery with a graveside service at 1:45pm.
