Darlene was born on January 29, 1941, in Hornell, New York, and grew up on a farm in Canaseraga, New York. While in the eighth grade, she met the love of her life, Gary Luce. The two married shortly after graduating from high school and shared 66 wonderful years together devoted to family, faith, hard work, and adventure.
In 1970, Darlene and Gary relocated to Zephyrhills, Florida, in search of warmer weather and new opportunities. Before moving to Florida, Darlene worked as a bookkeeper for several businesses in New York. In Florida, she spent more than 30 years as the office manager for Krusen Grove and Cattle (K-Bar Ranch) in Zephyrhills, where she was respected for her dedication, kindness, and strong work ethic.
After retirement, Darlene and Gary enjoyed traveling the country together in their motor home, creating cherished memories along the way. Darlene was also an avid quilter and treasured the friendships she shared with her quilting group. Above all else, she loved spending time with her family, who were the center of her life.
Darlene was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gary Luce, and their son, Tony Luce.
She is survived by her children, Rory Luce (Pam) of Bartow, Florida, and Pam Nejman of Winter Haven, Florida; her grandchildren, Olivia (Eric), Phillip (Lynsey), Garrett, Tyler, and Rachel; and her great-grandchildren, Lily, Lincoln, and James.
Darlene and Gary wished to be interred together at the Bushnell National Cemetery. A graveside service will be held on June 29, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. At that time, Gary will also be honored for his service in the United States Navy.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Good Shepherd Hospice (George C. Forsythe Hospice House) in Auburndale, Florida.
