Chauncey Patrick Dunn of Merritt Island, Florida, passed away on March 1, 2025, at the age of 87. He was born on August 17, 1937, in Denver, Colorado. After graduating high school in McCook, Nebraska, he served in the Navy, including on the USS Lake Champlain, until he was honorably discharged in 1959. In the vanguard of early space exploration, he worked for RCA, tracking satellites across the globe on ships and in the Seychelles, South Africa, and the Turks and Caicos. In Durban, South Africa he married Heather Memory Stewart, and the pair had three boys. As a widower, he married the second love of his life, Carol Anne Jefferies, on September 24, 1976. Committed to the space program, he and his family moved to Florida in 1979, where he worked at the Kennedy Space Center until retiring as the Manager of Timing and Firing. Being an avid scuba diver, fisherman, and conservationist, he was passionate about all things related to the ocean. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Carol Anne Dunn; his three sons Stuart (Andrea Jo nee Scarcella), Shawn, Chauncey Jr (Michael Seward); and his only grandchild Kaitlyn Heather Dunn.
Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church at 5555 N. Tropical Trail, Merritt Island 32953 on Friday, April 4, at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org).
