Born on November 13, 1935 to Charles Hilton Porter and Vohnceil Carolyn Conner, Carolyn led a life marked by kindness, empathy, dedication, and a deep love for her family.
Carolyn moved from Waycross, Georgia to Miami at an early age, where she attended Coral Gables High School. During that time, she overcame adversity due to spending an entire year in a full body cast for the treatment of polio. Several years later, she would meet the love of her life, Gary, at the University of Miami, where he was a standout player for the Miami Hurricanes football team.
Carolyn began a career in banking at an early age, starting off as a teller for First National Bank of South Miami (FNBSM). Her hard work and dedication eventually led to a role as president of First City Bank of Dade County, located across from the University of Miami. At that time, she was only the second female bank president in the entire state of Florida.
Carolyn retired with the Village of Key Biscayne, where she served in various administrative and management roles, including assistant to the Chief of Police and human resources manager, receiving accomplishments, awards, and recognition along the way.
Anyone who had the pleasure of knowing Carolyn will attest to how kind and endearing she was. Her generosity and desire to help others were hallmark traits that left a lasting impact on the lives she came across.
After losing her husband of over 60 years in May of 2024, Carolyn was never the same. Similarly to Gary, she was a pillar of strength for her family and a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, cherishing every moment spent with her loved ones.
Carolyn found solace and strength in her faith in Christ, which served as a beacon of hope throughout her life. She is now at home and in peace, in the presence of the Lord, along with her husband and loved ones who have gone before her.
Carolyn Porter Greaves leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness and will be deeply missed. Her death was preceded by her mother, father, and husband. She is survived by her three children, two grandchildren, and beloved cousin.
