Berto Benjamin Dominguez (affectionately known to his grandkids and great-grandkids as “Papa”) of Oviedo, FL was called home to be with our Lord on Tuesday March 11, 2025 at the age of 94; just 14 days shy of his 95th birthday. He was born on March 25, 1930 in the province of Matanzas, Cuba where he grew up, married Edilia Capote and had their only child Iglaberto (aka Al).
He received a teaching certificate and taught in the public schools of rural Matanzas, Cuba. After arriving in the US in 1961, he worked at various manufacturing facilities ultimately working the rest of his life at Western Electric/ Lucent for over 30 years in NJ and PA. His first wife ( Edilia) also worked with him in the same manufacturing facilities of WE & Lucent.
Berto played the Alto sax and directed dance bands in Cuba in the 50’s. Then upon arriving in the US in 1961, he lived in Newark and Elizabeth until relocating to Bethlehem, PA in 1984. He was a self taught amateur photographer taking hundreds of portraits of family and friends through his 80’s. He enjoyed listening to Cuban, big-band and jazz music. Berto was a faithful steward to his beloved Faith United Methodist Church since moving to Oviedo from PA in 1996.
He is predeceased by his first wife Edilia Dominguez of Bethlehem, PA. He is survived by his second wife, Magali Dominguez of Oviedo, his only child Al Dominguez and wife Nancy Baird of Sarasota, Grandson Randy and wife Andrea Dominguez, great grand children Natalie and William Dominguez of Charlotte, NC, Granddaughter Alison Dominguez, great grandchildren Sean and Alyssa Dorsa of Lakewood Ranch, FL.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Addison of Oviedo Assisted Living Center for the care and compassion they showed our beloved Berto during his residence there. Additionally, we are grateful to Kety Perez, who cared for him and wife Magali prior to entering assisted living.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service at Faith United Methodist Church, 1411 Dean Rd, Orlando, FL 32825 on Saturday, April 5th at 1:00PM.
