Tony was born in Boston, Massachusetts, and raised in Medford, where he attended Medford High School, graduating in 1963. That same year, he proudly joined the Massachusetts National Guard, beginning a lifelong commitment to serving his country. After working as a draftsman for several years, he pursued his passion for education by attending Salem State College, where he majored in Earth Science.
While attending Salem State, Tony met the love of his life, Katherine “Kathy.” They were married in 1970 and shared 56 wonderful years together, building a life centered on love, family, and faith.
Tony began his teaching career in Salem, New Hampshire, before accepting a position in Peabody, Massachusetts, the following year. After a district layoff ended his teaching position, he returned to full-time service with the Massachusetts National Guard, where he worked until his retirement in 1987. Following retirement, Tony and Kathy moved their family to Florida, where he returned to teaching, continuing to do what he loved most—educating and inspiring young people.
Tony and Kathy were blessed with two children, Joseph and Jannine, who brought him immeasurable pride and joy.
Anyone who knew Tony knew of his lifelong love for football, especially his beloved New England Patriots. While living in Massachusetts, he proudly held season tickets for 20 years. Even after moving to Florida, his loyalty to the Patriots never faded. He dedicated an entire room of his home to his favorite team, complete with team colors and treasured memorabilia, including an autographed football from the franchise’s inaugural team.
Tony and Kathy also shared a love of music and enjoyed attending concerts featuring many of their favorite artists from the 1960s, creating cherished memories together throughout the years.
Nothing brought Tony greater happiness than his family. He was a devoted grandfather to five grandchildren whom he loved beyond measure. He treasured every opportunity to attend their sporting events, celebrate their accomplishments, enjoy family vacations and cruises, and simply spend time together. His greatest joy was watching his family grow and creating memories that will be cherished for generations.
Tony will be remembered for his quiet strength, unwavering devotion to his family, dedication to education and service, and the kindness he extended to everyone he met. He rarely let others know when he was hurting, always choosing instead to focus on those he loved. His legacy will live on in the countless lives he touched and in the family he loved so deeply.
Tony is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Katherine “Kathy” Donato; his son, Joseph Donato; his daughter, Jannine Williams-Wilson; his five beloved grandchildren, Tyler, Bryce, Ashaia, Mikaela, and Kayson; his adopted son, Keary Wilson; his brothers, Paul Donato and John Donato; his sister, Frances Morris and her husband, Bill; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Rose and Laura.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 700 Brown Chapel Road, St. Cloud, Florida 34769.
Tony’s ashes will be laid to rest with military honors at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery during a private committal service at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made in Tony’s honor to the St. Cloud High School Football Team. Supporting the program is a meaningful way to celebrate Tony’s lifelong love of football and the tremendous pride he found in cheering on and supporting his grandsons throughout their athletic journeys. Tony’s greatest legacy was not found in his accomplishments, but in the love he gave to his family and friends. He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered.
