Priscilla Alden “Joe” Burger Dunn was born January 13, 1940, in Dixon, IL to Fern Elizabeth Grimes Burger of Dixon, IL and Alden Henry Burger of Suring, WI. “Joe” and her younger brother, Paul Raymond Burger, spent their childhood living in the mid-west, wherever their dad’s job with Mongomery Wards took their family. Much time was spent on outdoor adventures such as hunting for rocks and minerals, swimming at Lake Kelley and Slide Rock, nature walks and hunting and fishing. “Joe” was an Illinois state champion swimmer in high school, graduated from high school in New Philadelphia, OH, attended finishing school in Chicago, IL, and modeled for Montgomery Wards. She was married to Johnny Chester Dunn of New Philadelphia, OH for 17 years and had four children, Tamara Lynne, Melanie Lane, Todd Andrew and John Alden. Her family lived in Ohio, New York, Michigan, Maryland and Colorado. She lived in Colorado for over 45 years. Northglenn, CO became her home with Sonny Holt for over 30 years. She dedicated much time to decorating her dream home in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains in southern Colorado. She lived in New Mexico for the last three years of her life where she enjoyed outings with her NM family and friends.
“Joe” had a variety of careers and hobbies which reflected her upbringing and interests. She was passionate about making the world a beautiful place through her arts and crafts, gardening, and interior decorating. She loved learning and appreciating beauty. She accepted people from all stations of life without judgement. “Joe’s” occupations included fine jewelry sales, Mary Kay consultant for skin care and cosmetics, clean room trainer at Storage Technology Corporation, manager of a facility for disabled people, and a receptionist. For many years “Joe” was a volunteer Tai Chi instructor at the Northglenn Community Center and volunteered with the Northglenn Police Department. She dove into genealogy and traced her family history relentlessly. She believed in developing the capacity of others by being an excellent teacher and mentor. “Joe” was quick witted with a great sense of humor. She loved to dance, and her smile lit up the room. She was wise, a great listener and a friend to everyone she met.
“Joe” died peacefully after a lengthy struggle with Parkinson’s disease on March 19, 2025, in Albuquerque, NM. She was preceded in death by Sonny Holt and both of her parents. “Joe” is survived by her brother, Paul Raymond Burger and his wife Debbie, her children: Tamara Lynne Dunn, Melanie Lane Dunn-Chavez and her husband Daniel Chavez, Todd Andrew Dunn, and John Alden Dunn; five grandchildren: Paige Michele Deborski, Danica Fern Vigil Aldama and her husband Isaiah Aldama, Damon Robert Vigil, Alexandra Pauline Chavez, and Daniel John Chavez; and, one great-granddaughter, Ari Sage Aldama.
