Peggy Pinkerton Shoemaker

Peggy Ann (Pinkerton) Shoemaker, 92, of Bosque Farms, NM, passed away July 14, 2026. Peggy was born June 12, 1934, at Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque, NM, to James Walter Pinkerton and Ruby Lee (Roberts) Pinkerton. Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, brother James Walter Pinkerton, Jr., and her husband of 62 years, Walter Louis Shoemaker, Jr.

Peggy graduated from Highland High School in 1952 and briefly attended UNM and later earned a degree at TVI (now CNM). While working as a secretary at Sandia National Labs, she met Walter and they married in 1957. When her children were school-aged, Peggy returned to work and was a school secretary at several schools in the Los Lunas district, including Bosque Farms Elementary. Before grandchildren captured her full attention, Peggy also held executive secretarial positions at Sperry Flight Systems and University of New Mexico-Valencia Campus.

Peggy is survived by her daughter, Debi Shoemaker of Albuquerque, NM and her son Lee Shoemaker and wife Doreen of Bosque Farms, NM. Peggy is also survived by five beloved grandchildren; Caitlin Scott Gallegos and husband Jason, Crystal Shoemaker, Erin Scott Adams and husband Brendan, Justin Hansen, Tanya Hansen Gonzales and husband Dwayne. Peggy was so proud of her eleven great-grandchildren (Aria, Aubree, Bryce, Brynlee, Carlee, Chris, Kaelynn, Logan, Olivia, Sofia, and Tristen) and she was looking forward to the arrival of great-granddaughter Ruby and great-great-grandson Braxton.

Peggy’s family was her greatest joy, and she was actively involved in the care and raising of her offspring. Nana read many stories, sang many songs, prepared a lot of macaroni and cheese and “sprinkled” many a restless child to sleep. Over the years Nana attended countless recitals, school programs, sporting events, graduations, birthday parties and showers.

As an active member of the Bosque Farms community for over 60 years, Peggy was involved in the annual fair, a member of Peralta Methodist Church and a faithful supporter of the Bosque Farms Fire Department. The volunteer firefighters consumed many sandwiches and brownies prepared by Peggy.

Peggy enjoyed casinos, bowling, bargain shopping, soap operas, gardening, flowers, travel of all kinds, the ocean, reading, margaritas, lots of french vanilla creamer in her morning coffee, cheese enchiladas with red chile and extra onions on the side, flan, and M&M’s. Her love of travel and New Mexico lead her to volunteer for many years for the Albuquerque Visitor Bureau.

The family is grateful to the Beehive Bosque Farms caregivers and the Roadrunner Hospice providers for their loving care of Peggy.

In accordance with Peggy’s wishes, a graveside memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Sunset Memorial Park in Albuquerque, where her ashes will be interred with her mother and next to her father and brother. No reception will follow.
