Margaret was born August 14, 1935, in Ringgold, Louisiana, to George Oliver Pope and Irma Selese Holcomb Pope. She graduated from Ringgold High School, where she played basketball and excelled at scholastics, and went on to build a successful business career in administrative support and office management, eventually becoming co-owner and managing editor of the Daily Legal News in Shreveport.
Music was one of Margaret’s greatest loves. She enjoyed listening to all kinds of music and spent many years singing in church choirs. Margaret also enjoyed reading and traveling, relishing trips to beautiful mountains, lakes, oceans, and beaches throughout the southern and western regions of the country. But her most special times were spent with her family – Margaret was a gracious, loving, devoted mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother and cherished staying in touch with her many cousins and friends over the years. As she would say, she loved her family “to the moon and back,” and will be forever loved and remembered by all who were fortunate to know her.
Margaret is survived by two daughters from her marriage to John Vincent DeFoy: Holly DeFoy Willis and husband Jeffrey Willis; and Andrea DeFoy Robison and husband Ron Robison. Also left to cherish her memory are granddaughter Sarah Willis Bryce and husband Isaiah Bryce; grandson Dalton Robison; grandson Peyton Robison and wife Angelique Robison; great-granddaughters Madison Bryce, Elizabeth Bryce, and Abigail Bryce; brother-in-law Jared Y. Evans; and stepdaughters from her marriage to Phillip A. Robinette, Becky Pennington and Rachel Garner, and their families. Margaret is preceded in death by her parents; her beloved sister, Irma Jo Pope Evans; and her spouse, Phillip A. Robinette, with whom she shared 21 years of marriage.
A memorial service for Margaret will be held in Shreveport at a later date. She will rest forever next to her parents and sister in Providence Cemetery, Ringgold, Louisiana. Memorial donations may be made in Margaret’s honor to Alzheimer's Association, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, or Woodridge Baptist Church in Shreveport.
