Larry Edward Mendoza

Born on August 15, 1949, in Santa Fe. Larry was the youngest of six children to Solomon and Katherine Mendoza. He graduated High School in 1967. He proudly served 4 years in the Army National Guard Reserve and later worked as a correction officer for the State of New Mexico. He was one of the last guards to be released from the 1980 riot in the Santa Fe Penitentiary, a life-altering event that led to his early retirement from the State.

Larry was known for his strong work ethic and versatility. Over the years, he worked as a delivery driver for Josie's Best, owned by his sister Ricky and Morris Montoya, he was a plumber for Aztec Plumbing, he was a butcher, a skilled carpenter and mason. Even in retirement he remained industrious, building his home and readily assisting others. He will be remembered for his generosity, kindness and ability to connect with people from all walks of life.

He enjoyed traveling, and relaxing at home. He was an avid golfer, which his family fondly recalls his memorable hole-in-one. He also earned a black belt in Karate, which exemplified his discipline and determination and above all his life was anchored by his faith.

He lived by Proverbs 3:5-6: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding: in all your ways acknowledge him and he shall direct your paths."

Larry is survived by his son Larry Mendoza Jr., ex-wife Carmen Mendoza, girlfriend Gaylene Netherton, daughter lisa Hladky, Grand children; Daniel Mendoza-Chisolm, Devon Mendoza-Ford, Alexis Mendoza, Scarlett Mendoza and Carly Mendoza-Hladky and many extended family members and friends.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Ricky Montoya, his brother Manual Mendoza and his daughter Annette Mendoza-Ford.

The family extends heartfelt appreciation to the EMT's, and all who provided support on the morning of his passing.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday January 17, 2026 @ 10:00 am
