Jonathan Franklin Gray

Jon was born on Eglin Air Force Base in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, and moved around the country with his military family during his early years. The family settled in Alamogordo, NM, when Jon was in elementary school. Sports were a big part of his life. Throughout grade school and junior high he played--and excelled at--soccer, basketball, and baseball with his many friends. He graduated from Alamogordo High School where he played varsity basketball and won multiple district championships.

After high school Jon joined the U.S. Army and served four years as a paratrooper and satellite communications systems operator. He then settled in Albuquerque, attended CNM, married, and started a family before muscular dystrophy cut short his life. Jon will be remembered for his long stories shared over family meals and plates of comfort food, his unwavering enthusiasm for the underdog--especially the Detroit Lions. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends, who will forever be grateful for the time they had with him.

He is survived by his daughter Autumn Gray and her mother Melissa; parents Frank and Cathy Gray; siblings Rebecca Gray Rosenquist and Benjamin Gray; and many extended family members.

Burial will be at the Santa Fe National Cemetery on Friday, September 25, 2026 at 12:30 p.m. A celebration of life will be held at the Canyon Club at Four Hills on Saturday, September 26, 2026 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. All those who wish to remember Jon are invited to attend.
