James Robert Hartman, “Jim,” passed away on Wednesday, December 3, in Rio Rancho, New Mexico, at the age of 85. He left this world peacefully, with his family by his side, surrounded by love, memories, and the comfort of those who meant the most to him.
Jim was born on August 26, 1940, in Independence, Missouri, to Fred and Morey Hartman, who instilled in him the values of hard work, discipline, and integrity. He attended Drury College, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in History.
Proud to serve his country, Jim enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving from 1962 to 1968. He served in Vietnam from 1965 to 1966 in a rifle company, was promoted to Captain in 1967, and was highly respected by his officers and his men. He often spoke with great pride about his time in the Marines. His service profoundly shaped his character—steady, dependable, and fiercely loyal.
Following his military career, Jim built a successful path in the semiconductor industry, working for several top Fortune 500 companies, including Texas Instruments, AMD, Intel, Hitachi, and Hyundai. He concluded his distinguished career as President of Hyundai Semiconductor America in 1997.

Whether riding alone along winding desert highways or enjoying weekend trips with friends, the freedom of the open road brought him enduring joy. He also treasured time spent outdoors, especially golfing, fishing, and both downhill and cross-country skiing. While he enjoyed many pursuits, the time he spent on his Harley held a uniquely special place in his life, a passion he continued until the age of 80. He cared deeply for the many animals he had throughout his lifetime, each bringing him great joy.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Adriane; his sons Rob (Lori) Hartman and Mike (Angela) Hartman; his daughter Jenifer Wittman; grandson Gabriel Hartman and granddaughter Madison York, along with many nieces and nephews. He took immense pride in watching his family grow, always offering guidance, humor, and unwavering support at every stage of their lives.
