He graduated from Manzano High School and received a B.S. in Education from Ohio State University. Ted was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend. He worked as a high school history teacher, and later worked as a sales manager, insurance agent and independent consultant for many years. Ted was known for his gentle and kind nature. He had an infectious laugh and literally gave the coat off his back to a homeless man in need during a winter storm. Ted was a deeply spiritual man. He lived his values and was happy to share them with others. Ted was sober for 31 years and was an active member of the recovery community. He was a sponsor and leader both inside and outside of his meetings. He did as much as he could to help his community and served as a mentor and support for many people over the years.
Ted is preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Ruth. They shared many years of love and devotion and weathered life’s storms side-by-side. They built a life and raised their two children in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Ted is survived by his children, Leah (Damon) and Martin (Wendy); former daughter-in-law, Julieta de la Vega (Neas); grandchildren, Emiliano and Alexander; siblings, Margaret Vander Meiden (John), Joseph Neas (Susan), Micheal Neas (Pamela), and Maureen Neas; along with many cousins, nieces and nephews, and dear friends.
