Gloria Lynn Larrieu

Gloria Lynn Larrieu, age 79, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2026. Born in Benton Harbor, Michigan, Gloria lived a life defined by creativity, intellect, and deep love for the people and causes she held dear. A beloved mother, gifted professor, and extraordinary musician, Gloria had a rare ability to light up any room she entered. Her presence was magnetic, full of warmth, humor, passion, and conviction.

Music was one of her great gifts to the world, and through both her artistry and her teaching, she inspired countless students and colleagues with her brilliance, curiosity, and generosity of spirit. Gloria was a dedicated professor at Kalamazoo Valley Community College (KVCC) in Kalamazoo, Michigan, a role she truly loved and took great pride in. She thoughtfully split her time between Michigan and her beloved New Mexico, where she found deep joy, peace, and inspiration.

Gloria was a proud and unwavering advocate for justice and equality. She believed deeply in fairness, compassion, and the dignity of all people, values she lived by every day and instilled in her children. Her voice, whether raised in song, in the classroom, or in advocacy, was always purposeful and true.

Gloria cherished connection and was blessed with an extraordinary circle of devoted friends who stood by her through every season of life. Their love, laughter, care, and steadfast presence meant the world to her, and she treasured those relationships deeply.

Gloria was the proud mother of three children: John Paul Larrieu (Camille), Noel Larrieu (Ally) and Clare Larrieu-Bland (George), each of whom she loved fiercely and supported wholeheartedly. She delighted in their individuality, celebrated their accomplishments, and shared with them a bond rooted in love, respect, and deep connection. She was also a proud and loving grandmother to Daylan Lewandowski, Andrew Bland, Ryan Bland, Izria Larrieu, Nox Larrieu, and Nixon Larrieu, each of whom brought her immense joy and pride.

She is also survived by her sister, Debra Denning (Michael), whose kindness, love and support was unwavering. Gloria maintained a respectful relationship with her former husband, Michael Larrieu, the father of her children, and his wife, Alice Larrieu, with whom she shared mutual love and care of the children.

Gloria will be remembered for her radiant spirit, her sharp mind, her music, and her profound ability to connect with others. She leaves behind a legacy of love, integrity, creativity, and courage that will continue to resonate through all who knew her.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
