Love you forever my husband, you’re in my heart always. Till we meet again my love. There are no words to describe the loss of my husband, Gary to those were fortunate enough to know him and love him. His life has touched so many. Gary learned to make the best of what life dealt him. Growing up one of five children with a single widowed mother, Gary excelled in everything he did. Through scholarships for academic achievement, he obtained a degree in electrical engineering, where he worked for Digital as the lead quality engineer and then for Sandia National Laboratories as a software system engineer.
He never lost his passion for music. Inspired by his musician father, who died when he was only 9, he also was a gifted musician. If it had strings he could play it. But his main instruments were the dobro, guitar and mandolin. Music is what first drew him to his wife Karen Agogino, but it was their love that held them together for 26 wonderful years. Please listen to two of the many songs they did together by going to the links at the end of this obituary. They also enjoyed performing music for others to enjoy and going to concerts and their house was filled with music from Gary’s collection of over 25,000 songs.
He also enjoyed creating things with his hands whether it was building guitars or building houses. Before they even met, he and Karen, at the same time, were both building houses. His was in Vermont and hers was in Corrales, New Mexico. Once they were together Gary and Karen built an addition and workshop to their Corrales home. He also had plans for a greenhouse and a pagoda.
After retirement, he continued learning new things and made their solar home in Corrales a smart home for him and his wife to enjoy. Window shades that opened at the right time to maximize solar energy. Lighting that turned on during the day and off at night when it was time for sleep. He had the water for their garden automated so that together he and his wife could enjoy the fruits of their labor. He installed his very own weather station. Also he used his IT experience to set up servers to maximize the use of all the home computers and automated home systems.
What can one say about this incredibly gifted and loved man but that he will be greatly missed by all: his friends, his surviving two sisters, Kathy Wehlau and Joanne Simon and their children and his two brothers Bobby Simon and Artie Simon and Gary’s wife Karen Agogino and her family and their four cats. We are all just devastated by the sudden and unexpected loss of such a sweet, intelligent and caring man. You are in our hearts and we will love you forever.
