Gail was born to LD and Vivian Hammons on October 25, 1937 in Vernon, TX. On December 23, 1960, she married Charles Peters of Vernon, TX. In January of 1965, they moved from Lubbock, TX to Albuquerque, NM.
Charles and Gail bought property at Deer Lake Estates in the Jemez Mountains in 1967 and began building their someday retirement home. They acquired many good friends through the years and were fondly given nicknames in the community; Deer Lake Mayor and Pot Luck Queen.
Gail lived a full and meaningful life. She instilled in the lives of her children, her faith, love, values, the importance of family, hard work and doing the right thing. Being a mother was one of the most important parts of Gail's life, an honored role that gave her much pride and joy. She was a wonderful mother and teacher; always supportive, kind-hearted, funny and very smart.
Gail was very gifted and creative. She was an excellent seamstress, enjoyed oil painting on canvas and her most beloved endeavor was her beautiful cross-stitched pictures. Gail blessed many family and friends with exquisite pieces that took countless hours for her to complete.
She lovingly cared for her nephew and niece from Lubbock, TX for several summer vacations when they were young. Gail also loved being a Grandma greatly sharing in their lives and caring for them and other children when they were young.
Gail loved being in the kitchen and cooking. The family began a catering business, True Blue, in 1990. She took on the responsibility of preparing many of their delicious entrees, side dishes and fabulous desserts.
Upon retiring in 1998, Charles and Gail moved to their Deer Lake home. Gail loved the mountain life; gathering and splitting wood, painting things Charles handcrafted out of wood and helping others. Their home was always warm and inviting, where all were welcome. Many of their family members would spend vacation time with them in the cool, peaceful mountains. Gail continued to make her lovely cross-stitched pictures.
In 2000, their daughter and grandson moved to Deer Lake. Charles and Gail attended almost every football, basketball and track meet their grandson participated in. Gail loved having pot lucks and the gathering of friends and family. She collected recipes and enjoyed cooking wonderful meals and crafting delicious desserts. Gail loved spending time with her great-grandchildren who adored her and loved being with her. They affectionally called her G.G.
Married for 65 years, Gail is survived by her loving husband Charles, daughter Kim, son Daron (Mandy), grandchildren Christopher (Margeaux) and Donovan. Great grandchildren Isabella, Ava, Talon and Kendal. Beloved sister Jo Lynda, nephew Gerry, niece Tracy (Terry) and family from Lubbock, TX. Sister-in-law Linda, nephew Eric (Shanda) and family in Irving, TX.
Gail is eternally present with the Lord in His love and peace; reunited with her parents and loved ones. Until we are called home, our memories of her beautiful life and legacy of love will forever fill our hearts.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the St. Jude Children's Cancer Research Hospital.
