David loved video games, Star Wars, and Star Trek. He was an avid fan of anything related to space, rockets, airplanes, and ships. He adored baseball and hockey, and could often be found at local games cheering on the Albuquerque Isotopes and the New Mexico Ice Wolves, and at home rooting for the Los Angeles Angels and the Anaheim Ducks. His favorite music was bluegrass, and Trampled By Turtles and the Avett Brothers accompanied him in his final hours. He loved sour beers and a good burger, and he loved his family and friends fiercely and helped them whenever he could. He refused to be like anyone else, and as a result, most people who knew him learned so much from him. He had a wicked sense of humor, and a gorgeous smile to go with it.
Although he grew up in California and Georgia, he made his final home in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he met his partner Jess. He quickly adopted her dogs Luna, Skip, and Scooter, and became a bonus dad to her three sons Joey, Quentin and Aaron, who loved him right back. He often missed his family in Georgia, and greatly enjoyed occasional visits from his brother James as he passed through, and frequently swapped jokes and memes with his sister-in-law Victoria.
David is survived by his partner, Jessica Cummings; son, David Patrick Lash, Jr.; mother, Kathy Hedly-Lash; brother James Lash and his wife Victoria and sons; and sisters Elizabeth Hicks and her husband Jacob and their children, Stephanie Korab and her husband Robert and their children, and Katelynn Garrett and her husband Trent. David was preceded in death by his father Steve Lash and his brother Christopher Lash.
No funeral services are planned at this time, but memorial donations can be made in his memory to MD Anderson Cancer Center, https://www.mdanderson.org/donors-volunteers/donate.html or, as David did many times, tip a server at your favorite restaurant or bar more heavily than you’ve ever done and tell them about David.
