Born 14 August 1948 in Kansas City, Missouri, Dan graduated from Rockhurst High School and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1967 as an operating room technician. In 1971 he met and married the love of his life, Ann M. Lyons with whom he had three children. In 1979, he completed his bachelor’s degree in health care administration and received a commission in the U.S. Air Force as a Missile Maintenance Officer. Retiring from the Air Force in 1991.
Dan completed a degree in nursing and served in several hospital operating rooms in the Layton and Salt Lake City, Utah area. In addition, he completed multiple trips with Operation Smile in the Philippines and retired from the Department of Veteran’s Affairs.
Moving to Albuquerque, New Mexico in 2008 for many years, Dan volunteered his time to help prepare taxes for service members and those in need of assistance.
Dan was known for his immense pride in his work, unwavering determination, unparalleled sense of humor, and profound love of skiing. He took great pride in his family, especially his children and grandchildren. Dan is survived by his wife Ann of 53 years; son Dan III and wife Liz; son Dave and wife Jasmine; daughter Kathy and fiancé Issy; five grandchildren Allie, Zara, Devon, Genny, and Hazel; sisters Margaret, Eileen, sister-in-law Kathy, sister Trisha Maxwell and her husband Richard, his brother Jerry, and two fur-grandchildren Harley and Nutmeg.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents Dan Sr. and Mary Alice, brothers Tim and Rich, sister Mary Jo and brother-in-law Bernie.
A celebration of life for Dan will take place at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions in Dan’s memory be made to
Peripheral Nerve Research Fund or Operation Smile.
