Christopher Kent Briggs, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed away March 16th, 2026 after a life marked by grace, generosity, and a deep calling to serve others. He leaves behind his loving wife of 43 years, Patricia, and his two children Matthew and Rachel.
A man of steadfast faith, Chris’ spiritual grounding shaped his entire life and early on led him to consider the ministry. He graduated from the Verde Valley School in Sedona, Arizona. He went on to earn his degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder, and later served for a year with VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America), supporting the lives and rights of farmworkers in Idaho.
That same commitment to justice and compassion guided his professional life. After earning his M.A. in Special Education from the University of New Mexico, Chris began his career at the UNM-based Children’s Psychiatric hospital before joining the Albuquerque Public Schools later, where he would spend more than 25 years as a special education teacher and later as district support for teachers in special education. In a field known for its challenges and high turnover, he became a steady beacon of patience, understanding, and expertise—so much so that he was designated a master teacher and devoted himself to training all levels of teachers in Crisis Prevention and Intervention across the APS system.
A devoted citizen of Albuquerque, New Mexico, lived in the same beloved home for over 50 years and poured his energy into nurturing his community in ways both quiet and profound. His gentleness, empathy, and generosity of spirit left a tangible mark on thousands of lives—especially those of people too often overlooked or misunderstood. In his later years, Chris found much enjoyment spending time with his family, volunteering at his church, spending time in his garden and continuing with his lifelong love of music; playing the guitar and singing.
Those who knew Chris will remember his rare compassion, the way he listened with full attention, and the love and acceptance he extended to every new family member and friend who entered his life.
Services will be held May 2nd at 10:00am at Central United Methodist Church to remember Chris and celebrate his life.
