

Cathleen Carey Kardas passed away May 30th, 2024. She was born Cathleen Mary Carey on July 12th, 1944 to Harold and Lilian Carey. She lived her early life in Lancaster, Wisconsin and graduated from St. Mary’s College, South Bend, Indiana in 1966. Shortly after graduation on November 5th, 1966 she married Gerry Kardas and joined him as a Navy wife. She is preceded by her parents as well as her brother Terry and her sister Shiela. She is survived by her husband Gerry, sons Mark (wife Julcsi) and Jeffery, her brother Denny (wife Carol) as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Cathleen will always be remembered by her smile, contagious laughter and kindness. She was a great wife, mother, sister, friend and will be deeply missed by many. Cathleen was very active during the last 50 years of her life here in Albuquerque in various organizations.These include the Junior League of Albuquerque, PEO Chapter S, the New Mexico Arts and Crafts Fair (manager/standard director), Amapola Gallery, Tanoan Niners golf league, the Sangre de Christo Catholic Church Choir/Parish Counsel and the Albuquerque Civic Chorus.
Cathleen was an accomplished artist and singer. Many of you who have a gourd ornament or pot and have heard her sing can attest to her special talents.
Her family has scheduled a requiem mass and Celebration of life at 10am on July 13th, 2024 at Sangre de Christo Church(8901 Candelaria Rd NE) with a reception to follow in the adjacent community center.
