Our dear Brian passed on December 12 from advanced Parkinson’s disease in Albuquerque, New Mexico. We honor precious Brian for his tremendous courage, equanimity, and grace in meeting every challenge. We honor his gentle, kind nature – a great teacher, a true friend.
Brian touched the lives of many, love flowing freely from his heart to all. With joyful enthusiasm, he taught TM, established a TM Center in Omaha, cared deeply for each student.
For decades he created jubilant videos of the global universities and school graduations, also intimate, tender mementos of weddings, memorials, and life events.
With his highly professional editing of the PBS special, “Iowa: An American Portrait,” he was awarded Finalist in the editing category of the New York Film Festival, 1996. And every year for 17 years he traveled to and filmed Destination Imagination competitions, joining in the fun with 7,000 students from around the world.
He uplifted Fairfield music events with his wild and spontaneous dancing – gotta dance! Brian enjoyed biking, cooking, gardening, a deep abiding appreciation and acceptance of all people - and adopted dogs Emma, Molly, Laddie, and Peppy.
An excellent husband, partner, co-director, brother, friend, Brian’s greatest joy was in bringing happiness to others. He is survived by his wife, Deborah Kolberg Smith; sister Jodi Rojo (Gil Rojo); brother in law, Charles Kolberg (Crescentia Stonacek); sister in law, Joyce Kolberg (Charles Moyers); and former brother in law, Bob Roth.
We wish for our Brian a great leap towards light, fastest evolution on his journey, and Supreme Bliss. We thank him for sharing his Being and purity of purpose with us through the years.
His memorial will be held in Fairfield, Iowa on January 25, Brian’s 75th birthday.
