Ben was preceded in death by the love of his life and wife of 65 years Linda Lamm, his parents Clarence and Varnita Lamm, brother Thomas (Woody) Lamm, and nephew Brian Hughes.
Born in Selma, North Carolina to Clarence and Varnita Lamm on February 6, 1938, Ben used the countryside as his playground getting into mischief with his older brother and they certainly had many stories that they told. He grew up in a farming community and learned from an early age how to work hard by helping his father with the fields of tobacco and hog farming. After graduating from Mirco High School, he started his 22-year military career. He and Linda were married on December 22, 1959, and soon after left for Paris, France. His military career took him and Linda all over the country. After retirement in Panama City, FL, he moved his family to Albuquerque in 1977 and settled into his next career at RDA Logicon running an office for the research and development firm until his final retirement in 1994. He was immensely proud of his time in the military and in his second career. He met so many great friends along the way and it made him into the hardworking and caring man that he was.
Ben was not only the provider for his family, but he was an amazing husband, father and Papa. He always knew how to fix things and knew what seemed to be everything. He loved tinkering in his garage and out in his garden, but most of all, he loved being around his family. His grandchildren were the is love of his life besides Linda, and he always made sure they were well taken care of. He was an amazing friend to all who knew him and in true southern hospitality would take care of anyone who needed his help. Everyone always called “Mr. Ben” to help.
While we will miss him with everything in us, we have comfort in knowing he is with his wife again after 74 days apart, so now they can continue onto their next journey together in heaven.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, March 14, 2025, at 9:30 am at St. Stephen’s United Methodist Church; 4601 Juan Tabo Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM with a small reception immediately following the service. There will then be an internment with full military honors at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 2pm in Santa Fe, NM.
