Mae Woods Bell, age 105, of Rocky Mount, North Carolina left the earth on Tuesday, Sept 19, 2023. Mae was born in the UK, lived in Canada, New Mexico, and California before settling in Rocky Mount in 1951. Mae lived a full and consequential life. She was the founding and longtime Director of the Rocky Mount Children’s Museum, a founding member of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Rocky Mount, a Twin County Hall of Fame inductee (2010), recipient of the Order of the Long Leaf Pine (2017), and many more accolades. She was a poet, a reader, a maker, a teacher, an explorer, ever curious, and an unflagging servant to her community. She leaves behind a legion of friends who are grateful for having been a part of her extraordinary life. Mae will be sorely missed.
There will be two memorial celebrations of Mae’s life. The first celebration will be held on December 3, 12-3 pm at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship Hall, 516 N Church St, Rocky Mount, NC 27804. The second celebration will be held December 16, 11am at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 3313 Wade Ave, Raleigh, NC 27607.
