Mark W. Patrick passed away quietly in his sleep at the age of 70. Mark was born to loving parents Irene and Richard Patrick in Fayetteville, AR. where his father was stationed as Army advisor to the Arkansas National Guard.
Mark was the youngest of four children trailing twin brother Dirk out of the womb by 45 minutes. Mark is survived by his sister Teresa Burkhead (Gary), his brother Michael (Ann), his brother Dirk, son Vincent Patrick (Sarah) and ex-wife Jamie. He is also survived by nephews Aaron Sparks, John Patrick, Stephen Patrick (Mari) and Tony Patrick (Kari). Mark was preceded in death by his parents Irene and Richard.
As a military family the Patrick’s traveled to Germany and then back to Ft Knox, Ky. where their father retired from the military after 23 years of service and as WW-II veteran.
Mark was baptized in 1963 at Stithton Baptist Church in Radcliff, Ky.
The family moved to the Louisville suburb of Pleasure Ridge Park where the Patrick boys discovered the game of basketball at Pleasure Ridge Park H.S.
Mark grew and excelled as a basketball player becoming an All-State player and member of the Kentucky Allstars in the annual series with Indiana. From there Mark accepted a basketball scholarship to the University of Alabama and played two seasons before transferring to Valdosta State University in Georgia where he joined his brother Mike. He graduated with a B.S. in Education. While at Valdosta Mark helped lead the Blazers to a conference championship becoming MVP of the tournament in 1976.
After college Mark began a career in telecommunications eventually joining the University of Louisville as a telecom hardware specialist for 35 years. Mark’s family would like to thank Eddie Lamon, Mark’s colleague and supervisor, for his many years of friendship and support during Mark’s career.
Mark’s greatest joy in life was being the proud father of his beloved Vincent. He also loved to play golf with his longtime friends in an annual tournament of brotherhood. He will be remembered as a dedicated father, kind friend, and a caregiver for Dirk.
