Jane Elizabeth Adams Hercules Howe passed away on Tuesday, October 1, 2024 at the age of 84. Born on December 8, 1939, in Kansas City, Missouri, the first child of Clarke Adams and Dorothea Watson Adams, Jane was raised in Omaha, Nebraska. She graduated from Omaha Central High School, the University of Kansas (KU), and earned a Master of Science in Special Education degree from the University of Texas at Dallas.
She was married to Larry Kent Hercules, whom she met at KU, from 1961 to 1983. The couple had four children, Kent, Jill, Paul, and Clarke. She has said many times that the treasure of her life was the chance to be a mother. She sacrificed much for her family over the years and remained devoted to them until the very end. Jane started an exciting new chapter of her life when she married Albert Howe of Dundee, Scotland on September 28, 2013 in Dallas, TX.
Jane was an energetic, caring and talented teacher. She had a rare sense of how to reach each individual learner and help them achieve their potential. She also worked at an assortment of challenging jobs to make ends meet, including guiding tours at Meteor Crater, running her own daycare facility, and tutoring children after school in her own home and online. In every case she put her heart into the work.
Jane, a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, served in many callings in the church and found joy in serving people: her own family, members of her church, neighbors and even strangers she met in the store. She was a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, enjoyed traveling, reading, listening to inspiring music, working puzzles of all kinds, watching old westerns, researching and sharing the lives of her ancestors and delighted in following the exploits of her loved ones. She will be deeply and earnestly missed.
Jane is preceded in death by her husband Albert (Bert) Howe, her son Paul Hercules, and the many Adams and Watson ancestors of whom she was so proud.
She is survived by her brother, Clarke Adams, Jr, of Stuart, Florida, children: Kent Hercules (Tracie), of Sandy, Utah, Jill Elliott (John), of Richardson, Texas, Clarke Hercules (Elizabeth), of Aledo, Texas; grandchildren: Jessica (Peter), Andrew (Jessica), Samantha, Molly (Michael), Remington (Marissa), Chapman (Abigail), Claire, Simon; great-grandchildren: Lila, Bennett, Abraham, Arthur, Evelyn, Logan; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family wishes to express special thanks to those who helped care for Jane through the recent years, as well as her wonderfully kind neighbors and members of the LDS Meandering Way and Richardson Wards.
A memorial service in her honor will be held Saturday, October 19, 10:00 am, at the Richardson LDS Stake Center, 900 S. Bowser Rd, Richardson, TX 75081. The family will be receiving guests at 9:00 am. In tribute, please wear a pop of red, Jane’s favorite color, and bring your fondest memories of Jane to share with family and friends. Interment to follow at Rolling Oaks Memorial Center in Coppell, TX.
