Alvin Gene Thrasher

Alvin Gene Thrasher rejoined the love of his life, Sharon, in heaven on October 16, 2025. Alvin was born to Al and Pearl Thrasher on December 13, 1933 in Las Vegas, New Mexico. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and music with his dad and was his mother’s “Sonny Boy”. The musical instruments Alvin played were the piano, guitar, banjo, and accordion. He also enjoyed singing in choirs from junior high, high school, college, and church.

A 1952 graduate from Las Vegas High, Alvin served four years active duty in the U.S. Navy, from July 8, 1953 to July 5, 1957, stationed on both coasts, in San Diego and Washington D.C., at sea, and overseas in the Philippines in a peace keeping mission after the end of the Korean War. He later served four years inactive duty with the New Mexico Air National Guard.

Among his many employments were AT&SFRR Signal Gang; U.S. Post Office employee, first in Las Vegas, and then in Albuquerque, where he rose through the ranks from Sub Clerk/ Carrier to Career Carrier and ultimately into the Supervisory ranks; multiple positions at Creamland Dairies; and finally, as a Financial Analyst with licenses in life insurance, securities, and mortgage originator. Along the way he also held several part-time and second jobs that included convenience store clerk, warehousing, and courier driver. An avid do-it-yourselfer, he attained experience in wood working, roofing, plumbing, electrical, and flooring as he did extensive remodeling on four properties he owned at one time or another.

The recreational activities he enjoyed included bowling, swimming, tennis, camping, and dancing. He was an avid square and round dancer. Additionally, in the 1970s, he was a licensed hot air balloon pilot.

Alvin was preceded in death by his beloved wife Sharon (Scarbrough) Thrasher; his parents, Albert Lenard Thrasher and Pearl Alberta (Kearns) Thrasher; his eldest daughter, Katherine (aka Kathie) Elise (Thrasher) Carrillo, granddaughter, Michaela (aka Kyla) (Carrillo) Atole; his sister in-law, Joyce (aka Joby) Marie (Scarbrough) Stone, and step-daughters Diane Browning and Jeanette (Browning) Denaple.

Alvin is survived by his youngest daughter, Perla Rae (Thrasher) Webb, grandchildren, Nathan and Ezra; his great-grandchildren, Lucian and Xandria; his two sisters, Catherine St. John (aka Betty Thrasher) of Littleton, Colorado, and Carol (Thrasher) Storey, of Grand Junction, Colorado; his sister in-law, Linda (Scarbrough) Clay, step-granddaughter Shealynn Denaple, and his numerous Scarbrough cousins.

Please join us in celebrating Alvin’s life and his passion of square dancing on Sunday, November 23, 2025, from 1 pm to 4 pm, at the Albuquerque Square Dance Center, 4915 Hawkins St NE in Albuquerque, NM. Dress is casual with non-marking shoes.

Alvin’s cremains will be interred, with full military honors, on Monday, November 24, 2025, 1:00 p.m., at the Santa Fe National Cemetery, 501 N Guadalupe St, Santa Fe, NM.
